Roger Federer to Play Davis Cup Against U.S. in 2012
Tennis icon Roger Federer will play for round of-five affair that will be staged on red clay in 12.
The former world No. 1 and 16-time Grand Slam champion Federer has not played in a first-round Davis Cup tie since 2004.
The United States owns a record 32 titles, while the Swiss have never won the coveted chalice. The Americans are 2-1 all-time versus Switzerland, including a 3-1 victory in the 1992 Davis Cup finale.
The Switzerland-USA winner will meet the Canada-France victor in a quarterfinal in April.
Spain captured its third Davis Cup title in four years by besting visiting Argentina 3-1 last week in Seville.
